# Viewing Majority Results

Majority voting requires a choice to meet a **winning threshold** (for example, 50% or more of the votes) to be declared the winner. If no choice reaches the threshold, the vote has no winner. A **quorum requirement** can also be set, requiring a minimum percentage of invited voters to participate for the results to be valid.

This page explains how to access and interpret the results of a Majority vote.

{% hint style="info" %}
Results are only available for polls that have **ended**. While a poll is still active, you can open the results panel but will see a message indicating that final results will be available once voting has ended.
{% endhint %}

## Accessing Results

To view the results of a Majority vote:

1. Navigate to **Collaboration > Voting** in the PCC.
2. Locate the poll in the polls table.
3. Click the **poll name**, or click the overflow menu and select **View Results**.

The results panel opens on the right side of the screen.

***

## Results Panel Overview

The results panel is divided into several sections, from top to bottom:

1. **Poll Details** — identifying information about the poll
2. **Participation Metrics** — response and participation statistics
3. **Votes Cast and Abstained** — vote count summary cards
4. **Quorum Status** — whether the quorum requirement has been met (only shown when a quorum is configured)
5. **Question Results** — the vote outcome and distribution for each question

An **Export** menu in the top-right corner of the panel lets you download the results as **CSV** or **PNG**.

***

## Poll Details

At the top of the results panel, you will see:

* **Voting Type** — displays "Majority"
* **Committee** — the committee whose members were invited to vote
* **Poll Name** — the title of the poll
* **Description** — the poll description, truncated to 300 characters with a "show more" option

## Participation Metrics

Four metric cards are displayed below the poll details:

| Metric              | Description                                                                                   |
| ------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Total Responses** | The number of members who submitted a response (vote or abstention) |
| **Invited** | The total number of voting invitations sent |
| **Participation** | The percentage of invited members who responded (Total Responses / Invited) |
| **Status** | Whether the poll is **Active** or **Ended**, along with the end date and time in Pacific Time |

***

## Votes Cast and Abstained

Below the participation metrics, two summary cards display the vote breakdown:

* **Votes Cast** — the number of members who submitted an actual vote (excluding abstentions). When pseudo-anonymity is disabled, a **View voters** link appears below the count, allowing you to see the full list of voters.
* **Abstained** — the number of members who chose to abstain. This card only appears if the **Allow Abstain Option** was enabled when the poll was created. A **View voters** link is also available when pseudo-anonymity is disabled.

{% hint style="info" %}
When **pseudo-anonymity** is enabled for the poll, vote counts are still displayed but the **View voters** links are hidden. Individual voter identities cannot be viewed in the PCC interface.
{% endhint %}

***

## Quorum Status

If a **quorum requirement** was configured when the poll was created, a quorum status section appears below the summary cards. This section is unique to Majority voting and does not appear for Plurality votes.

### Quorum Met

When enough invited voters have participated to meet the quorum, a green status box displays:

> **Quorum Met**
>
> X of Y invited voters participated (Z%). Required: Q%

### Quorum Not Met

When participation falls below the required quorum, a red status box displays:

> **Quorum Not Met**
>
> X of Y invited voters participated (Z%). Required: Q%

If the poll has ended and the quorum was not met, an additional message appears:

> The vote did not meet the required quorum and is therefore not valid.

{% hint style="warning" %}
When the quorum is not met, the vote is considered invalid. Even if a choice received enough votes to meet the winning threshold, the result is declared **No winner** because participation was insufficient.
{% endhint %}

## Question Results

Each question in the poll displays two sections: the **Majority - Final Vote Outcome** and the **Vote Distribution**.

### Multiple Questions

If the poll contains more than one question, results are organized into tabs labeled **Question 1**, **Question 2**, and so on. Click a tab to view the results for that question.

If the poll contains a single question, the results are displayed directly without tabs.

### Majority - Final Vote Outcome

This section announces the result of the vote. The outcome depends on the state of the poll and whether the quorum and winning threshold requirements were satisfied.

| State                           | What You See                                                                                                                                                                 |
| ------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Active (voting in progress)** | A blue information box: "The vote is currently in progress. Final results will be available once voting has ended." |
| **Single winner** | A green box with a trophy icon showing the winning choice, its vote count, percentage, and confirmation that the winning threshold was met |
| **Tie** | An orange box with a handshake icon listing the tied choices, their shared vote count, and percentage. A tie is only shown when the tied choices meet the winning threshold. |
| **No winner** | An amber box explaining why no winner could be declared (quorum not met, threshold not met, or both) |
| **No votes cast** | A gray box indicating that no votes were cast for the question |

**Example — Single Winner:**

> **Option A** has won with **15 votes** (**60.0%**), meeting the 50% threshold.

**Example — Tie:**

> There is a tie between **Option A** and **Option B**, each with **10 votes** (**50.0%**), both meeting the 50% threshold.

**Example — No Winner (threshold not met):**

> **No winner** — No option has achieved the required 50% threshold.

**Example — No Winner (quorum not met):**

> **No winner** — The required quorum was not met.

**Example — No Winner (both quorum and threshold not met):**

> **No winner** — The required quorum was not met and no option has achieved the required 50% threshold.

### How a Winner Is Determined

For a choice to be declared the winner of a Majority vote:

1. **Quorum must be met** — If a quorum percentage was configured, the participation rate must meet or exceed it. For example, if the quorum is set to 50% and 20 voters were invited, at least 10 must participate.
2. **Winning threshold must be met** — The leading choice must receive a percentage of the votes equal to or greater than the winning threshold. For example, if the threshold is 50% and 20 votes were cast, the winning choice needs at least 10 votes.
3. **No tie** — If two or more choices meet the threshold and share the highest vote count, a tie is declared instead of a single winner. If the tied choices do not meet the threshold, the result is **No winner**.

If either the quorum or the threshold is not met, the result is **No winner** with a message explaining which requirement was not satisfied.

### Vote Distribution

Below the outcome, every choice is listed with the following details:

* **Choice text** — the answer option
* **Percentage badge** — the percentage of total votes this choice received, displayed as a rounded badge. The winning choice has a green badge; all other choices have a gray badge.
* **Vote count** — the raw number of votes. When pseudo-anonymity is disabled, the vote count is a clickable link that opens the voter list for that specific choice.
* **Progress bar** — a horizontal bar representing the percentage visually. The winning choice has a green bar; all other choices have a gray bar.

Each bar shows the percentage and number of votes received by each voting option. When pseudo-anonymity is disabled, you can click on the vote count to view the list of voters who selected that option.

***

## Viewing Voter Details

When pseudo-anonymity is **disabled**, you can view who voted for a specific choice:

1. In the **Vote Distribution** section, click the **vote count** next to a choice.
2. A voter list opens showing each voter's details.

You can also click **View voters** on the **Votes Cast** or **Abstained** cards to see the full list of voters or abstained members.

{% hint style="warning" %}
When pseudo-anonymity is **enabled**, voter identity information is not available in the PCC interface. Vote counts and percentages are still displayed, but you cannot view individual voter details.
{% endhint %}

***

## Exporting Results

To export the poll results:

1. Click the **Export** menu in the top-right corner of the results panel.
2. Select **Export as CSV** to download a spreadsheet of the results, or **Export as PNG** to download an image of the results panel.

## How Majority Differs from Plurality

| Aspect                   | Majority                                                | Plurality                              |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------- |
| **Winner determination** | Must meet a winning threshold (e.g., 50%) | Most votes wins, no threshold required |
| **Quorum requirement** | Supported — results can be invalid if quorum is not met | Not applicable |
| **No winner scenario** | Possible if threshold or quorum is not met | Only possible if no votes are cast |
| **Threshold display** | Winner message includes "meeting the X% threshold" | No threshold mentioned |
