Viewing Condorcet IRV Results
Condorcet IRV determines a winner by comparing every candidate against every other candidate in head-to-head matchups. If no candidate beats all others, the poll falls back to Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) — a method that eliminates the lowest-ranked candidate each round and redistributes their votes to voters' next preferences — to break the tie. Voters rank all choices in order of preference. This page explains how to access and interpret the results of a Condorcet IRV vote.
Accessing Results
To view the results of a Condorcet IRV vote:
Navigate to Collaboration > Voting in the PCC.
Locate the poll in the polls table.
Click the poll name, or click the overflow menu and select View Results.
The results panel opens on the right side of the screen.
Results Panel Overview
The results panel is divided into several sections, from top to bottom:
Poll Details — identifying information about the poll
Participation Metrics — response and participation statistics
Votes Cast and Abstained — vote count summary cards
Question Results — the vote outcome and detailed breakdowns for each question
An Export menu in the top-right corner of the panel lets you download the results as CSV or PNG.
Poll Details
At the top of the results panel, you will see:
Voting Type — displays "Condorcet IRV"
Committee — the committee whose members were invited to vote
Poll Name — the title of the poll
Description — the poll description, truncated to 300 characters with a "show more" option
Participation Metrics
Four metric cards are displayed below the poll details:
Total Responses
The number of members who submitted a response (vote or abstention)
Invited
The total number of voting invitations sent
Participation
The percentage of invited members who responded (Total Responses / Invited)
Status
Whether the poll is Active or Ended, along with the end date and time in Pacific Time
Votes Cast and Abstained
Below the participation metrics, two summary cards display the vote breakdown:
Votes Cast — the number of members who submitted an actual vote (excluding abstentions). When pseudo-anonymity is disabled, a View voters link appears in the card, allowing you to see the full list of voters.
Abstained — the number of members who chose to abstain. This card only appears if the Allow Abstain Option was enabled when the poll was created. A View voters link is also available when pseudo-anonymity is disabled.
Question Results
Each question in the poll displays a detailed breakdown of how the winner was determined.
Multiple Questions
If the poll contains more than one question, results are organized into tabs labeled Question 1, Question 2, and so on. Click a tab to view the results for that question.
Condorcet Round
If a Condorcet winner could not be determined, a Condorcet Round section appears first, indicating that no candidate beat every other candidate head-to-head and that the poll proceeded to IRV to break the tie. If a Condorcet winner was found, this section is skipped and the outcome is shown directly under Condorcet IRV - Final Voting Outcome.
Final Voting Outcome
This section announces the result of the vote. The outcome depends on whether a Condorcet winner was found:
Vote in progress
A blue information box: "The vote is currently in progress. Final results will be available once voting has ended."
Condorcet winner found
A green box with a trophy icon: "{Candidate} is the winner, having defeated all other candidates in head-to-head matchups. Please see the detailed results below."
No Condorcet winner (IRV used)
A gray box: "Since a winner could not be determined under the Condorcet process, the vote proceeded to the IRV elimination process. Please see the detailed results below." Below this, an Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) - Final Voting Outcome subsection shows the IRV result — a single winner ("declared the winner after the IRV elimination process"), a tie ("There is a tie between {candidates}. No single winner can be determined."), or no winner.
Standings
A ranked list of all candidates showing their final placement — Winner, Tied, Eliminated in round {N}, or Survivor — and, where applicable, how many head-to-head matchups each candidate won out of the total possible.
Pairwise Comparison
A table comparing every candidate against every other candidate. Each cell shows two numbers: the first is the number of voters who ranked the row candidate above the column candidate, and the second is the number who ranked the column candidate above the row candidate.
Ballot Ranking Distribution
A table showing the number of ballots that used each unique ranking order across all candidates. When pseudo-anonymity is disabled, click a ballot count to view the voters who submitted that ranking pattern.
Candidate Rank Summary
A table showing how many votes each candidate received at each rank position (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on). When pseudo-anonymity is disabled, click a non-zero cell to view the voters who ranked that candidate at that position.
Poll Comments
If the poll creator added comment questions when creating the vote, a Comments tab appears next to the Voting tab in the results panel.
If the poll has more than one comment question, each one appears as a numbered tab (Question 1, Question 2, and so on).
Each comment question shows the number of responses and, when pseudo-anonymity is disabled, the individual responses with the voter's name, response text, and the time it was submitted.
When pseudo-anonymity is disabled, you can click the response count to open a Comment Respondents list, which shows who has responded and lets you view an individual voter's full set of comments or email them.
If a comment question has no responses yet, it shows a message indicating comments will appear once voters submit feedback.
Viewing Voter Details
When pseudo-anonymity is disabled, you can view individual voters from several places in the results panel: the View voters links on the Votes Cast and Abstained cards, and the clickable counts in the Ballot Ranking Distribution and Candidate Rank Summary tables.
When pseudo-anonymity is enabled, voter identity information is not available in the PCC interface. Vote counts are still displayed, but you cannot view individual voter details.
Exporting Results
To export the poll results:
Click the Export menu in the top-right corner of the results panel.
Select Export as CSV to download a spreadsheet of the results, or Export as PNG to download an image of the results panel.
