Member Enrollment
This guide walks you through the 5-step online membership enrollment process — from starting your application to what happens once your agreement is complete.
How to Get Started
The enrollment form has five steps and takes about 10–15 minutes to complete. You'll need a Linux Foundation (LF) account — if you don't have one, you can create it for free when you first open the form.
Step 1 — Member: Confirm your organization
The form will recognize you by your LF account and display your organization's name, website, employee count, and type. You'll confirm that the details are correct. You can also upload your logo in SVG format and opt in to having it displayed on the project's member page and included in a new-member announcement.
Information not correct? If your organization's details are wrong, select "Submit modification request" on the Member step. Do not simply overwrite the fields — the request ensures your records are corrected across LF systems.
Step 2 — Membership Tier: Choose your level
Available tiers and pricing are calculated automatically based on your organization's employee count and existing Linux Foundation membership status. Each tier has a "Preview Agreement" link so you can review the full membership agreement as a PDF before selecting.
Step 3 — Billing: Set up invoicing
Choose how you'd like to receive invoices — by email or hard copy via courier. Indicate whether a Purchase Order (PO) is required by your organization. Select or add a billing address.
Step 4 — Contacts: Add your key contacts
Add the people from your organization who will be associated with the membership. Each contact must have a corporate email address. One person can hold multiple roles — for example, the same individual can be both the Authorized Signatory and Primary Contact.
Authorized Signatory ✳
Will sign the membership agreement on behalf of the organization. This person must be legally authorized to execute contracts (e.g., a VP, CFO, CEO, or General Counsel).
Primary Contact ✳
Receives all official notices from the foundation, including governance votes and board elections.
Billing Contact ✳
Receives all invoices and payment notifications unless directed otherwise.
✳ Required
Step 5 — Review & Submit
Review all entered information. Once submitted, your application is sent directly to the Linux Foundation for review and approval. Your Authorized Signatory will receive the membership agreement to sign when the application is approved.
What to Do If I Don't Have Information at This Time?
The form does not save your progress — if you close the page, you will need to start over. It's worth gathering what you need before you begin. Here's what to do in common situations:
I'm not sure who our Authorized Signatory should be
This is typically a VP, CFO, CEO, or General Counsel — someone with legal authority to sign contracts on behalf of your company. If you're unsure, check with your legal or finance team before starting the form.
If you've already submitted but need to update the signatory, contact support and they can update it before the agreement is countersigned.
I need time to decide on a membership tier
You can click "Preview Agreement" next to any tier on Step 2 to review the full membership agreement as a PDF before committing. Pricing is shown on screen and is calculated based on your company size.
If you need to consult internally, close the form and return when ready — just be aware you'll re-enter your information from the beginning.
I don't have the billing contact's details yet
You may enter your own information as a placeholder for the Billing Contact. Once you have the right person, their details can be updated at any time through the LFX Organization Dashboard or by contacting support.
My organization's information on the form is wrong
Do not overwrite the pre-filled fields manually. Instead, use the "Submit modification request" link at the bottom of Step 1. This ensures the correction is applied across LF systems, not just on the form.
I'm getting an error or something isn't working
Open the messenger in the bottom right of the page and start a support conversation. Include the project name you're enrolling in and a description of the issue.
What Happens After Completing the Agreement?
Once you submit, the Linux Foundation takes it from there. Here's what to expect:
Immediately after submitting
A confirmation email is sent acknowledging your application. Your Authorized Signatory will receive the membership agreement to review and sign via DocuSign when the application is approved.
Agreement is countersigned by LF
Once both parties have signed, your membership record is created. A welcome email is sent to your key contacts with onboarding information and next steps.
Invoice
Your Billing Contact receives an invoice via the method you selected (email or hard copy). If you indicated a PO is required, the LF team will coordinate with you before issuing the invoice.
You're added to the project
Your contacts are added to the appropriate governance committees, mailing lists, Slack workspaces, and member landscapes based on your tier. Your logo will appear on the project's member page if you opted in.
Manage your membership After your membership is active, you can update key contacts, review membership details, and track onboarding tasks in the LFX Organization Dashboard at Organization Dashboard.
